This Privacy Policy describes how Kusi (“we,” “us,” or “our”) handles information when you use the Kusi mobile application (the “App”). We built Kusi with an offline-first approach: most features run on your device without requiring you to upload personal content to our servers.

1. Who We Are and Scope

Kusi is a cooking companion app that helps you explore recipes, organize ingredients, record cooking sessions, and optionally purchase virtual currency through Apple’s platform.

This Policy applies to the App and information processed in connection with it. If you use features offered by Apple (for example, in-app purchases), Apple’s privacy practices may also apply.

2. Information We Process

Depending on how you use Kusi, we may process the following categories of information:

2.1 Information You Provide or Create

Cooking and recipe-related inputs you enter or select in the App (for example, ingredient lists, preferences, notes, and locally saved cooking records).
Media you choose to add, such as photos you capture or import for recipe steps or finished dishes, stored on your device unless you explicitly use a future feature that transmits data (none is required for core offline use).

2.2 Automatically Processed or Device-Held Data

App preferences and local settings stored on your device.
Diagnostics that remain on-device (for example, error logs your device may store for troubleshooting), unless you choose to share diagnostic information with us through a support request.

2.3 Payment-Related Information

When you make an in-app purchase, Apple processes payment. We do not receive your full payment card number. We may receive limited transaction identifiers and statuses needed to validate purchases and credit virtual coins.

2.4 What We Do Not Aim to Collect

We do not require you to create an account for core offline features. We do not ask you to upload government ID through the App for basic use.

3. How and Why We Use Information

We use information to:

Provide the App’s features, including recipe discovery experiences, local history, and personalization based on your inputs.
Maintain reliability and improve usability, such as reducing crashes and improving workflows.
Process in-app purchases in line with Apple’s rules.
Respond to support requests when you contact us by email.
Comply with law, respond to lawful requests, and protect rights, safety, and security.

Where applicable law requires a “legal basis,” we rely on performance of a contract (providing the App), legitimate interests (improving and securing the App, consistent with your expectations), and consent where required (for example, certain permissions you grant on iOS).

4. On-Device Processing and AI Features

Kusi may use on-device capabilities (such as Apple Vision and related on-device models where available) to help recognize ingredients or analyze images you choose to process. This analysis is designed to occur locally on your device for core flows, supporting privacy and offline use.

If future versions introduce optional online features, we will describe them clearly in-product and update this Policy as needed.

5. Permissions (Camera and Photo Library)

Kusi requests access to your camera or photo library only when you initiate an action that needs it. You can grant or revoke permissions in iOS Settings at any time. If you deny permission, some features may be limited, but other parts of the App may still work.

6. Apple In-App Purchases

Purchases are processed through Apple. Apple's terms and privacy policy may apply to payments and receipts. We use purchase validation information to deliver virtual items (for example, Star Coins) inside the App.

7. Analytics, Ads, and Third-Party Trackers

Kusi is not designed as an advertising platform. We do not use third-party advertising SDKs to profile you for ad delivery in the core offline experience described here.

If we introduce optional analytics in a future release, we will describe what is collected, whether it is on-device or transmitted, and how to opt out where required.

8. Sharing of Information

We do not sell your personal information. We may share information only in limited situations, such as:

With Apple as necessary to complete in-app purchases you initiate.
When required by law, legal process, or to protect users and the public.
With service providers who assist us in operating the App, bound by confidentiality and only instructed to process data as we direct (if such providers are used in future versions).

9. Security

We use reasonable administrative, technical, and organizational measures appropriate to the nature of the App. However, no method of electronic storage is 100% secure. Please protect your device with a passcode and keep iOS updated.

10. Data Retention and Deletion

Most App data is stored locally on your device and remains until you delete it within the App or remove the App from your device.

If you contact us for support, we may retain emails and related correspondence as long as needed to resolve the request and for routine business records, unless a longer period is required by law.

11. Children’s Privacy

Kusi is intended for a general audience and is not directed to children under 13 (or the minimum age required in your region). If you believe a child has provided personal information to us, contact privacy@kusiapp.com and we will take appropriate steps.

12. International Users

If you use Kusi outside your home country, information may be processed on your device in accordance with your local laws. If you are in the European Economic Area, United Kingdom, or Switzerland, you may have additional rights described below.

13. Your Privacy Rights and Choices

Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct, delete, export, or restrict certain processing, and to object to certain processing or lodge a complaint with a supervisory authority.

To exercise rights that apply to information we hold as a controller, contact privacy@kusiapp.com. We may need to verify your request as permitted by law.

Because much of your data is stored locally, the fastest way to delete your on-device content is often to remove items in the App or uninstall the App from your device.

14. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will post the updated version with a new “Last Updated” date. If changes are material, we will provide additional notice as required by law or through the App.
